About the Role
The Spay/Neuter Veterinary Assistant will be responsible for supporting the daily operation of
the low-cost spay/neuter clinic located at GAIN in Yigo. Duties will include,
but are not limited to interacting with clients and their pets in a professional and courteous
manner, working closely with the clinic staff to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients,
and providing clerical support as needed. Schedule is typically Monday through Thursday, but will adjust accordingly base on veterinarian availability and community out reach clinics.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Directing clinic staff in a high-volume, fast-paced, spay/neuter environment
• Directing volunteers, teaching and assigning tasks
• Safely handling dogs and cats in a clinic setting
• Preparing medications
• Administering medications to cats and dogs, placing IV catheters, inducing anesthesia
• Preparing animals for surgery
• Supporting veterinarians during surgical procedures
• Providing pre-op and post-op monitoring for dogs and cats
• Entering patient data into software / database
• Tracking and logging controlled drugs
• Compiling order lists, maintaining inventory
• Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining clinic facility
• Wrapping and autoclaving packs
• Providing additional support to clinic staff as needed (intake, discharge, phones, etc.)
• Cleaning cages and prepping for the next surgery day
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Ability to follow directions and work independently or in a team.
Self-motivated with basic reading, writing, and computer skills.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Comfortable working with animals and not afraid to get dirty.
Interest in animal welfare.
Physical ability to lift at least 40 pounds, bend at the waist and stay on feet most of the day.
Must be 18 years or older and available to work weekends.
